The retirement bonus for children is a benefit of insurance duration or pension amount granted to parents who have raised children. However, this bonus is often absent from the online career statement in most cases. The explanation lies less in an oversight than in the very mechanics of retirement calculation, which addresses these family rights at the time of liquidation and not beforehand.
Difference between career statement and pension calculation
The career statement lists the quarters contributed, validated, or assimilated throughout the professional life. It reflects the data transmitted by employers and pension funds. The retirement bonus for children follows a different logic: it is neither contributed nor declared by an employer.
The bonus is calculated at the time of pension liquidation, not during the career. Therefore, pension funds do not include it in the statements available on the Info Retraite portal or in the personal spaces of complementary schemes. As long as the retirement application has not been submitted, these rights remain pending.
This distinction between what appears on the statement and what will be taken into account in the final calculation is the main source of confusion. An incomplete statement does not mean a lost right.

Insurance duration increase and bonus: two distinct mechanisms
The general scheme (private sector employees) grants a duration increase in the form of additional quarters related to maternity, adoption, and child-rearing. These quarters may partially appear on the statement, but their final attribution depends on the family situation declared at the time of departure.
In the public service, the term bonus for children refers to a different benefit. It is one year per child born or adopted before January 1, 2004, subject to an interruption or reduction of activity. The conditions to be met are precise:
- A continuous interruption of activity of at least two months (maternity leave, parental leave, parental presence leave, or availability to raise a child under twelve years old)
- Or a period of part-time service by right to raise a child, of varying duration depending on the working hours
- The child must have been raised for at least nine years before their twenty-first birthday
These conditions are only verified during the processing of the retirement file. The career statement does not mention them because the fund has not yet conducted this verification.
Reform of September 2026 and new CNRACL rights
The CNRACL, which manages the retirement of territorial and hospital civil servants, has evolved the consideration of children for pensions effective from September 1, 2026. New rights related to children are now integrated into the online retirement application service for CNRACL and RAFP.
The technical point to remember: these new rights are taken into account in the pension calculation, but not necessarily in the historical career statement. An agent consulting their statement on Info Retraite may thus notice the absence of any mention of their children, while the bonus will indeed be applied at the time of liquidation.
This update particularly concerns the long career scheme. Bonuses for children can now be counted to meet the conditions for early retirement, which represents a significant change for agents who started working early.
Online statement and official simulator: known limits
The retirement simulator available on Info Retraite has documented limitations. Several cases of anomalies have been reported, including discrepancies between the simulated amount and the pension actually paid. Family rights are among the least well represented by these tools, across all schemes.
For fathers, the situation is even more unclear. The education increase can be shared between both parents or fully attributed to one of them, depending on an agreement or, failing that, according to the default rules of the scheme. As long as this choice is not formalized, no quarter related to education appears on the statement of either parent.
Correcting anomalies and asserting rights
The absence of the bonus on the statement does not exempt one from verifying that the entire career is accurately recorded. The most frequent anomalies on a career statement concern missing quarters, unreported unemployment periods, or errors in declared salaries.
For rights related to children, the process is broken down into several steps:
- Check on the career statement that the number of children is correctly reported in the “family situation” section when it exists
- Keep the supporting documents (family record book, parental leave certificate, part-time order) that will be requested at the time of liquidation
- Contact the relevant pension fund if no mention of children appears, especially as the departure approaches, to anticipate the processing
The pension increase for three or more children, which increases the retirement amount by a percentage set by the scheme, is also calculated at the time of departure. It does not appear on the career statement and constitutes another source of legitimate concern.
Processing time and multiple schemes
Insured individuals who have contributed to multiple schemes (general scheme, public service, independent scheme) face additional complexity. Each fund applies its own rules regarding children. Coordination between schemes occurs at the time of unique liquidation, not before.
An inter-scheme career statement viewed on Info Retraite may thus show zero quarters related to children for all schemes simultaneously, without this indicating a loss of rights.
The mechanism of the retirement bonus for children relies on a late verification, which explains its systematic absence from career statements. Keeping supporting documents remains the best guarantee that these rights will be correctly applied when the time comes.
